Sophie's travels 2011-2012: March 2012

We woke up early and got some washing and unpacking done before Grampa came downstairs and the Birthday celebrations began. Jambo, Richard, Judy, Felix and Anne joined us for drinks before we all headed to the local Indian The Cinnamon Tree for a feast for lunch – very tasty. We came home for cake and a few more drinks and scrabble then started getting sorted for our trip to Portugal the following day. Grampa had a great day and enjoyed seeing everyone so that was brilliant.

We had an early start and set off for Marrakech. We stopped along the way for some great views of the gorge and ‘Mollywood’ – Morocco’s Hollywood where Gladiator, Star Wars, Cleopatra etc were filmed. We drove past the biggest Kasbah in Morocco and through the High Atlas Mountains which were covered in snow – amazing scenery! We did some last minute shopping in some Berber markets where we stopped for lunch before driving on through more amazing scenery to Marrakech where we were dropped at the airport and farewelled the rest of the group. Our flight back to the UK all went smoothly and we collected the car from the airport parking and drove back to Highfield by around 1:30am ready for Grampa’s 90^th Birthday. Sad to see the end of Morocco – amazing trip!
