We had an early start and packed the last of our stuff in
our bags then caught the bus to the tube station. I farewelled Andrea and Chris
at Line 1 where they headed for the main railway station to catch their train
to Shanghai to meet up with Claire and I headed off in the other direction to
the Silk Market for some last minute shopping.
After checking the temperature in India I realised it was
going to be warmer than I had thought and coming from Siberia and the very cold
Northern climate I didn’t have any warmer weather gear with me. So I decided
this was a good enough excuse to get a new t-shirt and shoes that my feet
wouldn’t fry in… I grabbed a few bargains and made my way back to the hostel
where I collected my stuff to post then walked to the post office.
It took a few hours to go through the process of posting a
5kg box home so I’m just crossing my fingers that it will make it and hoping
for the best.
I had one last meal at our favourite restaurant then walked
back to the hostel and collected my bags and caught a taxi to the airport.
It took an hour to get to the airport through the traffic
and then I waited quite a while to check in due to a massive group who seemed
to take priority over anyone else waiting to check in (that and I arrived an
hour before the check in even opened…).
Due to the enormity of Beijing International Airport I had
to catch a train from the check in counter to the boarding gate and even then
walk a mile to my gate.
The flight was 7 hours from Beijing to Delhi and not too bad
as far as flights go (I was slightly worried about what Air China might be like
to fly with but they were just as good as any other cheap airline I’ve flown
with).
