I landed at 1:30am and made my way through Delhi airport
which was easy enough to navigate. I met my airport transfer ok and had a half
hour drive to the hotel during which the driver pointed out landmarks like the
road to Mumbai, the main station etc
I arrived at Hotel Perfect which I wouldn’t say was perfect
but I have also stayed in worse… The sand fly looking things that had taken
over the bathroom were its downfall…
I got to bed at 3:30am and woke at 8:30am and re-packed my
bags with my big jackets up the back and food supplies out and accessible. I
chilled out in the hotel for the morning, sorting photos and emails, had a
great shower and met the tour guide and some of the other people on the tour.
Jenny arrived at 1:30pm after having some trouble with her airport transfer
which sucked for her.
We had our pre-tour meeting with the group at 2pm where we
were told what to expect and given some tips from the guide and completed all
our paperwork.
At 3:30pm we set off to a temple where our guide explained a
bit about the Hindu religion and Indian way of life which was very interesting
and great to see inside the temple. I was amazed at how good our guides and the
locals English was and our guide said this is because in India there are so
many dialects within the one country that all their formal documentation is
written in English. Indian’s communicate with others from different parts of
India in English because they don’t know all the different Indian dialects…
From the temple we went to India Gate where we wandered
around the gate which was likened to The Arc De Triomph by our tour guide…
There was a festival like atmosphere around the gate with masses of people
selling all sorts of things like fairy floss, balloons, balls, jewellery, hot
food etc…
We made our way back to the hotel and had a quiet night in
to catch up on some sleep and prepare for our 4am start the following day!
