We had a very early start to get to our flight from Gatwick to Dublin but made it with plenty of time. We arrived in Dublin to a fairly overcast grey day, collected our hire car and went to the supermarket to stock up on supplies (and ask the friendly butcher for directions) before driving down to Kilkenny where we explored the town a little. We parked in the library carpark then walked along the river, over the bridge and up around the castle. We then walked down past the Rothe House to St. Canice's cathederal (unforunately too late to climb the spire for views over the town) then walked back over the bridge and along the river. We made our way out of the town centre and started the search for a spot to camp and found an empty paddock in Freshford where a lovely Irish guy was building his house who was happy for us to stay over night, in return we helped him move some building supplies to protect the site from the wind. We made ourselves some yummy chicken sandwiches in the car for dinner then set up the tent.
