Sophie's travels 2011-2012: 30/01/2012 St. Petersburg, Russia TRANS SIBERIAN RAILWAY

We got out the door around 10am at sunrise again and caught the tube down to the Neva river to the Peter and Paul Fortress where we went to the Peter and Paul cathedral and the Grand Ducal Burial chapel. We heard the cannon being fired at 12 (it was so loud it felt like it was being fired at us!), went to the Trubetskoy Bastion Prison, The Commandant’s house, walked along the iced over waterfront and checked out the museum in the Neva wall in the Peter and Paul fortress which had an impressive display on the fortress. It was a cloudy morning and snowed a bit but cleared into a nice sunny day in the afternoon. We checked out the Astrology Science museum which was a bit old and crap then walked over to the 1^st stone building in St. Petersburg only to find it had been built over with red brick which was less than impressive! We then caught the tube back to the Tepemok near our hostel on Alexandra Prospekt and had some soup and pancakes before meeting the rest of the group for our vodka train tour (Trans-Siberian Railway tour) at 5pm. We had a lovely honcho – Diana who talked us through things we could do in St. Petersburg the next few days and then all went to a nearby Russian restaurant for dinner.
