2/01/2012 Mortimer, UK to Tenerife – Canary Islands, Spain

I had an early start packing and getting everything sorted for our trips to the Canary Islands and Morocco. Laura, Tome, Mary and I left Highfield around 10 and drove out to Gatwick and left the car in long term parking for the 2 weeks. We made it to the check in with plenty of time and farewelled Mary who was off to Glasgow for a few days and will meet us back at the airport for our trip to Morocco. The flight from London, Gatwick to Tenerife South was 4 hours so Laura and I used that time to plan our 3 days in The Canary Islands (Tom was lucky enough to be moved to an emergency exit seat…). We arrived in Tenerife at about 7:30pm after seeing a pretty sunset from the plane window; it was about 20 degrees which was very pleasant after our UK winter (which has actually been very mild so far!). We had arranged an airport transfer which was an interesting experience – the bus driver drove about 20km over the speed limit the whole way and consequently had to slam the breaks on frequently which screeched chronically like they were about to fail! Anyway we got to see some of Tenerife by night on the trip… We got to the hotel and dumped our bags and found a good pizza place for dinner around the corner before falling into bed around 11pm.
