Sophie's travels 2011-2012: 21/9/2011 Helsinki, Finland

We woke up to a grey, overcast cool day in Helsinki. I snapped some pics from the sun deck as we cruised in again before we got off the boat and onto a city sightseeing tour bus which took us around the main sights of Helsinki. We got off the bus at a church that had been built around rocks with 400 metres of copper wire in the ceiling to create fantastic acoustics. We also stopped at a cool piece of abstract art - sculpture of pipes in the park. From there we went back into the city via the 2 main churches in the city, the parliament house, the train station and numerous museums and shopping centres. We got off the bus at the docks where we explored the markets and food hall (with lots of reindeer products). Reindeer breeding is a big thing up in the far North in Lap Land... After exploring a bit more of the city we made our way back to the boat and got a few more pics from the deck as we cruised out of Helsinki (in the rain!). We watched another magic show on the boat which was good fun before getting some sleep in our cosy cabin.
