Sophie's travels 2011-2012: 19/8/2011 Dubrovnik, Croatia through Bosnia and Herzegovina to Zadar, Croatia

We got up early and packed up the camp before setting off for Zadar. We drove through amazing scenery, along the Dalmatian coast then through the Bosnian boarder and along the coastline in Bosnia before crossing back into Croatia where we continued up the coastline to Split. Split was a beautiful sea side town with lots of little markets and pretty buildings. We visit Diocletian’s Palace and wandered the markets before driving on to Zadar. In Zadar we did a walking tour past the Roman ruin lookalikes and down to the waterfront where we sat and listened to the amazing sea organ on steps going down into the water. There are pipes under the water that go up through the steps and the force of the waves pushes air up through the pipes to create lots of different tunes – it was brilliant (can be found on u tube). We sat in the sun (approximately 40 degree heat!) and listened for a while before checking out the giant solar panel also on the water front that soaks up the suns rays during the day to put on a speccy light show at night (unfortunately we didn’t get to see the light show). We drove on through the 2^nd largest mountain rage in Croatia from the pinnacle of which you can see the highest mountain range in Italy that we drove through earlier in the trip. We arrived at the campsite in time for sunset which topped off my favourite day in Europe so far!
