28/7/2011 Venice, Italy – Contiki tour day 10

We woke up after not a lot of sleep feeling a little worse for wear and got the ferry to Venice where we did a walking tour from St. Marc’s square with a local tour guide to the Rialto Bridge, the Bridge of Sighs, past the opera house, through tight alleyways and canals, past art – filled palazzos, bars and markets. We then went to a Lace factory and learnt about how they make Venetian lace. We were shown a table cloth that took 8 months for 8 people to make and cost 950 Euro! We then enjoyed Italian pizza for lunch and wandered through the market on the Rialto Bridge and got lost in the streets of Venice for a while. We eventually met the rest of the group and went to a glass blowing demonstration which was amazing, took the glass blower about 3 minuted to make the Ferrari horse! We then had a quick look in the cathedral in the main square which was pretty amazing, lots of gold and mosaic and marble everywhere. From there we all went for a relaxing gondola ride through the canals of Venice which was brilliant.
